The names of the captains who commanded the original Federation Starship Enterprise have become the stuff of legend: April, Pike, Kirk, Spock.
When the ship was destroyed in 2285, her fame prompted the Federation to designate a new starship as USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A and place her under the command of James T. Kirk, the most famous of the commanders of the previous Enterprise. Like her predecessor, the Enterprise-A's missions also became legendary.
